In Onitsha : Fire destroys 300 shops in Biafra market

Eyewitnesses say the fire began from an area occupied by dealers in aluminum who are found at the rear of the market

A night fire razed over 300 shops in the Biafra market in Onitsha, South East Nigeria.
The market is also known as the Glorious market.
According to Daily Trust, the fire started at about 10.15pm last Friday in the market located beside the G. Agofere Park.
Eyewitnesses say the fire began from an area occupied by dealers in aluminum who are found at the rear of the market.
Traders had retired home after the day's business when the fire incident occured.
Confirming the incident, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Fegge Police Division, Ribiu Garba, said the fire incident affected the U.S.A Line.
Daily Trust reports that Garba was one of the first to arrive the scene.
He was joined by men of Okpoko Fire Service Station and their counterparts from Onitsha Main Market, who battled to put out the fire.
