NIPSS @40: “Lift 100m Nigerians Out Of Poverty” – VP Osinbajo Urges Forum

Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo has urged the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) not to fail Nigerians.
Osinbajo made this known in Abuja on Tuesday at a stakeholders forum organised by NIPSS to commemorate its 40th anniversary.
The theme of the forum is: “The National Institute in the Context of Challenging Environment’’.
According to him, the country achieve its national target of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in 10 years.
Speaking through the Deputy Chief of Staff to President Muhammudu Buhari, Mr Ade Ipaye, the Vice President said the performance of think tank institutions in the country has not been quite encouraging with some of them falling short of playing the crucial, critical pivotal role of championing development through indept research and innovative thinking, especially the ones that provide government with intellectual support through rich policy advice.
He also urged the institute to work toward tackling the impact of climate change on communities across the country and the existing complex security challenges.
The processes of formulating alternative policy choices as well as harnessing the human resources that comes with them is normally done through rich and functional institutions of which is the think tank around the country.
Nigeria realised this long ago hence the establishment of some strategic institutions to look at different aspects our national lives.”
“It is evident that the environmental complexity within which the national institute operates has changed considerably over time and there are emerging challenges toward the optimum fulfilment of its objectives.
“It is, therefore, commendable that the management of the institute has convened this forum to deliberate on its current challenges and map out the way forward.
