Fuel tanker loaded with smuggled rice seized, by customs

The Ogun State Area Command of the NCS has intercepted a fuel tanker and 25 cars with smuggled rice.

The  Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun State Area Command, has revealed that it has intercepted a petroleum tanker and no less than 25 other cars loaded with smuggled bags of rice from different parts of the state, in the last two weeks.
While addressing journlists at the command’s Idiroko border office on Thursday, November 24,  the new Area Controller,Hassan Gangua, said that the MAN diesel petroleum tanker with number plate FST 51 XE, was built specially for smuggling, Punch reports.
Gangua revealed that the tanker was filled to capacity with smuggled rice and was intercepted by customs operatives on Monday, November 15, along the Idiroko border axis on its way to Lagos.
He said, “This interception was made by our gallant officers 24 hours after my arrival."
According to him, 25 other cars with built-in compartments, loaded with bags of smuggled rice, were also intercepted along the same axis.
In a similar development, another trailer carrying about 500 bags of rice was intercepted along the Lagos-Sagamu interchange on Monday, November 21, 2016.
