UN says terrorists are preventing it from helping almost 1 million people

Boko Haram is said to control a large part of the fishing industry in the area despite military operations against the sect.

Nigeria has formed a regional military coalition involving Cameroon, Chad and Niger to eradicate Boko Haram

The United Nations (UN) has said that it is unable to help almost one million people around Lake Chad due to the activities of Boko Haram.

Boko Haram is said to control a large part of the fishing industry in the area despite military operations against the sect.
“We believe that there are up to a million people in the areas and villages we haven’t been able to reach,” UN humanitarian coordinator for the Sahel, Toby Lanzer told Reuters.
“We are very concerned about the security situation. Do not think that the crisis is anywhere near over,” Lanzer added.
Lanzer had warned in September that Nigeria is on the brink of a famine unlike any that has been experienced anywhere else on the planet.
