A jobless man has been charged in a Lagos court for allegedly raping his 12-year-old niece.
An unemployed man, Samson Akinse, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos State for allegedly raping his 12-year-old niece.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Akinse who lives with the victim’s parents at the ir Ajegunle, Lagos residence forcefully had carnal knowledge of the minor on October 28, 2016.
The police prosecutor handling the case, Inspector Simeon Inuoha told the president of the court, Chief Magistrate B. O. Osunsanmi, that the suspect was being tried for alleged rape and incest.
“The victim told her mother that the accused defiled her and the accused was apprehended,” Inspector Inuoha said.
He added that the offence contravened section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
When the charges was read to Akinse, he pleaded not guilty and Magistrate Osunsanmi granted him bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, before adjourning the case to February 13, 2017, for mention.
