In Niger Delta : 2 police officers reject $21M bribe, get promotion

For rejecting a bribe of $21million, two officers of the Nigerian Police Force have been promoted and commended by the Police Service Commission.

The officers, Olusoji Akinbayo and Inspector Sunday Idowu had reportedly rejected the huge sum from a pipeline vandal, Samuel Wilberforce, when he tried to lure the officers to do his will.
It was reported that the officers had arrested Wilberforce for pipeline vandalisation with his gang, but the officers rejected the inducement and arrested the suspects.

According to a report by Tribune Newspaper, the officers, CSP Olusoji Akinbayo and Inspector Sunday Idowu were commended for their loyalty to the force and promoted to the ranks of ACP and ASP.
The promotion of the officers was announced by the Chairman, Police Service Commission (PSC), Mr Mike Okiro, at the 19th plenary meeting of the commission.
Okiro said the commission has taken the Federal Government’s war against corruption to the next level with a mandate to appoint, promote and discipline members of the police force.
He also said the commission has moved not only to discipline officers, who have compromised their position, but has promoted six senior police officers who have showed rare and exemplary courage to arrest corruption.
