Hameed Ali : Customs boss dares Senate, says he was not appointed to wear uniform

Ali was appointed as the Comptroller General of Customs by President Muhammadu Buhari on August 27, 2015.

The Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (retd) seems to have drawn the battle line with the Senate.

You will recall that the Nigerian Senate passed a unanimous resolution summoning Ali over the planned seizure of vehicles that have not paid duty.
Senator Dino Melaye also raised a motion that the Customs boss should appear before the Senate with his uniform.
In his response, Ali said “No! I was not appointed Comptroller General of Customs to wear uniform.
“Does uniform work or the person behind the uniform?”
Also speaking on the alleged raid which his men carried out in a market in Ogun state, he said “If we suspect that smuggled items are taken into your house, we have the right to cordon that house and go in to search.
“Am I doing my job or not? I think that should be what should worry the National Assembly.”
Hameed Ali, a retired Army Colonel, was appointed as the Comptroller General of Customs by President Muhammadu Buhari on August 27, 2015.
He served as Military Administrator of Kaduna State, from August 1996 - August 1998 during the regime of General Sani Abacha.
