An aggrieved mother has expressed her sadness over the treatment of her daughter's defilement.
The parents of three-year-old girl allegedly defiled at her school, have staged a protest with the help of sympathisers on Monday, November 21.
Channels TV reports that the protest was carried out at the gates of University of Benin consultancy Nursery and Primary School, Ekenwan campus, Benin City, Edo State.
The protesters including the aggrieved parents called on the school's management to bring out the staff behind the alleged defilement which reportedly occurred on November 8.
Expressing her feeling on the issue, the victim identified as Valerie Oruade' mother said: “My child could not talk because she was so tensed”.
The pained woman stated that when she told the school authorities of the incident, “they told me to protect my child’s image and shouldn’t allow anybody to know,” rather than take immediate action.
A child rights protection activist, Jennifer Ero, who joined the protest, attributed the case to sheer negligence.
She said: “We are saying that we send our children to school not to be defiled. If the schools can no longer protect our children it means our children are not safe."
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the University of Benin, Michael Osasuyi, while reacting to the allegations against the school, said that the institution was aware of the situation and that investigations have been launched into the case by the police.
