The disclosure was made by the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Taiwo Lakanu, on Friday, December 2, while he paraded the suspects at the police command in Owerri, Punchreports.
The suspects are identified as Uchenna Ozor, along with three others identified as, Prince Etim John of Uto Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state, Chinazaekpere Nwaenyi of Umuabalike Ihiala in Anambra state, and Chukwudi Ngbanwelu also of Umuabalike in Ihiala in Anambra state.
According to him, the four suspects arrested in connection with the case are a crime syndicate specialised in armed robberies, murder and child theft and are accused of hacking a nursing mother to death, smashing the husband’s head with an axe and stealing their five-month-old baby.
Lakanu told newsmen that the suspects sold the child for N300, 000 to a buyer they had on standby in Okporo community in the Orlu local Government Area of the state.
Punch reports that the CP stated that the suspects alleged to have committed the crime, have been on the command's wanted list for a long time.
Lakanu said the suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation and will be charged to court soon.
